The Museum of the Grand Prairie is located in Mahomet, Illinois. We are part of the Champaign County Forest Preserve District, and our mission is to collect, preserve, and interpret the natural and cultural history of Champaign County and East Central Illinois. And the Answer is . . .
. . . a swift, used to wind skeins of yarn during spinning. John was close with his Facebook guess "spinning wheel," but Susan guessed correctly that the swift was a yarnwinder! Here is a larger picture of the swift in our collection:
